Their Story
An Irish Wedding in Cefalù
Gráinne and Phil came to us from Ireland with a beautifully clear picture of the day they wanted — a true Sicilian celebration, rich with history and warmth, in one of the most romantic corners of the island. Cefalù, with its golden stone, its cathedral and the sea just beyond, was exactly the place for them.
Their Catholic ceremony was held in the Duomo di Cefalù, the Cathedral of Cefalù — a magnificent Norman cathedral with centuries of history behind it. Beneath its grand stone interior and soaring columns, surrounded by their loved ones, Gráinne and Phil exchanged their vows in one of the most iconic places on the whole island.
There is something quietly moving about being married in a building that has stood for more than eight hundred years. The cathedral gave their day a sense of occasion and permanence that no modern setting could ever quite match — ancient, beautiful and unmistakably Sicilian.
As the newlyweds stepped out of the cathedral, the celebration spilled straight into the streets. Gráinne and Phil walked hand in hand through the piazza, drinks in hand and their loved ones close behind — that wonderful, unhurried Sicilian moment when a wedding becomes a party and the whole square seems to share in the joy.
From there, a vintage car was waiting to carry them onward. There is nothing quite like the two of you tucked into a beautiful classic car, bouquet in her lap, the town slipping by outside the window — a little pause together, just married, before the festivities carried on.
The celebrations continued at Hotel Le Calette, a seafront luxury hotel set among terraces and gardens overlooking the bay. It is the kind of Mediterranean setting that needs very little dressing up — the sea, the greenery and the Sicilian light do most of the work, and guests simply melt into the evening.
And what an evening it was. “The party was amazing,” Lina remembers — a fabulous DJ kept everyone on their feet and dancing well into the early hours, the way the very best Sicilian celebrations always seem to end.
